The Sarah Show
How I Left My Abusive Boyfriend feat. author Rebecca K. Tan
On the sixth episode of season two of The Sarah Show podcast, Sarah Chew talks to author Rebecca K. Tan about how she escaped an abusive relationship.
*TRIGGER WARNING: this episode talks about emotional, physical, sexual and spiritual abuse. Listener discretion is advised.
Additional note: In order to protect the privacy of all the individuals involved, Rebecca K. Tan operates under a pseudonym; all names have been changed in the interview and her book; and her voice has been digitally altered.
Rebecca met her first boyfriend through a Christian fellowship in university. In the beginning stages of dating, Tony seemed perfect. He seemed to be a man of God, everyone loved him, and he knew the Bible really well. But after a few weeks, Tony started to change. He became emotionally, physically and sexually abusive to Rebecca, all while twisting Scripture to reason with her.
Listen to the episode to find out how Rebecca ended the toxic relationship, and how she eventually found freedom through Jesus Christ.
Throughout the whole ordeal, Rebecca kept a journal full of her raw thoughts and prayers. In 2020, she published a book containing these accounts titled, "But He Said He Is A Christian." You can find Rebecca's book on Amazon or on her website (linked below).
